Mild Concussions Can Cause Long-Term Problems. A minor concussion may have longer-lasting consequences than once thought. Researchers administered cognitive tests to healthy individuals and patients with recent mild concussions and found that test results were 25% lower among those with mild concussions. A year later, while the cognitive tests scores of both groups were now similar, brain images of the mild concussion patients showed some evidence of brain damage. The findings are concerning as 90% of concussion are considered mild to moderate in severity.
