History of Chiropractic

Some of the earliest healers knew there was significance between health and the condition of the spine.  Hippocrates advised: “Get knowledge of the spine, for this is the requisite for many diseases.

However, the actual profession of chiropractic dates back to the 1800s. The treatment of the spine was still misunderstood until Daniel David Palmer discovered the specific spinal adjustment. He was the one to develop the philosophy of chiropractic which forms the foundation for the profession.

Often surprised at the effectiveness of his adjustments, D.D. Palmer studied anatomy and physiology to learn more about the vital connection between the spine and health.  He realized spinal adjustments correcting vertebral misalignments, or subluxations, were eliminating the nerve interference causing the patients’ complaints.

Chiropractic today has the education and technology to treat many problems, not just back and neck pain. It is a health care discipline which uses the body to self heal without the use of drugs or surgery.

Once spinal abnormalities are corrected, nerve irritation is reduced, pain is alleviated and the body’s own self healing ability begins.
